CEVA Logistics and Sereact have put AI robots on Zalando clothing returns in Germany and Poland, with no per-item training.
On 7 October Zalando, CEVA Logistics and Sereact announced that AI robots now sort clothing returns at CEVA’s sites in Greven, Germany, and Świebodzin, Poland. The dual-arm robots grasp, identify and sort each item without training for that specific product.
They run on Sereact’s Cortex platform, and CEVA delivers the system to Zalando as Robotics-as-a-Service. The companies describe it as the first phase of automating returns across Europe.
Returns are one of the hardest parts of the supply chain, because every parcel is different. The same trend shows in the US: UPS-owned Happy Returns reported 50% more efficient sorting with 150 Geekplus robots.
Robots that recognise items by vision, without programming per part number, are the direction of physical AI we follow for warehouses and retail.
